Médard Maertens was a Belgian Fauvist Painter.
He exhibited in La Libre Esthétique and Les Indépendants. He was a member of the group Le Sillon and L’Effort.
During WWI when wounded in battle, he spend some time in Hospital where he met Marthe Guillain a nurse at the front.
They married in 1916. This painting depicts her with their baby and is probably painted during the war.
