Xavière Adèle Lucie Baldauf, born in 1867, was the stepdaughter of Xavier Mellery.
She was a painter herself and a member of the Cercle Artistique et Littéraire of Brussels .
Living together in their house with atelier in the Mellerystreet 78 in Laken (Brussels), he became her inspiration and first teacher.
After Xavier Mellery died in 1921, she inherited the house and staid there till her death in 1946.

The drawing represents Lucie around 9 years old, in 1875.
Serveral portraits of her exist. A painting, representing Lucie with her two cats,
and another oil on canvas in the collection of the Royal Museum of Gent, that represents her leaning on a ledge.
