Alfred Moitroux was a Belgian painter and lithographer.
He studied briefly under Jean Delville in the Academie of Brussels.
His style before the first World War, was impregnated by the style of the Pre-Raphaelites and Gustave Moreau.
During the second World War, a large part if his work was destroyed during the bombardement of Mons in 1944.
This portrait of an elegant dandy, dated 1918, is a fine early example of the Nouvelle Objectivité, an emerging style after the war, predominately in Germany.
