Raymundus Josephus Petrus Kimpe, was like Jan Mulder an artist from Gent.
Already very young in his life he got implicated with the Flemish Movement.
Although working as an engineer till the end of the first Wold War, he continued to paint. At the end of the war, due to his involvement with the group Jong Vlaanderen, a radical pro-German activist group,
he was sentenced to death.
He fled with his family to Zeeland in the Netherlands, where he stayed till his death.
During the bombardment of Middelburg, in 1940, his workshop was destroyed and more than 200 of his works perished.
His style was in the wake of the Flemish Expressionism of the group of Sint-Martens-Lathem, but later, during the forties evolved to a more abstract form of art.
